Food Sage - Empowering Healthier Food Choices

2024

Problem Statement

Consumers struggle to understand what’s actually inside packaged foods due to misleading labeling, complex ingredient lists, and lack of reliable transparency leading to uninformed and potentially unhealthy purchase decisions.

Overview

The packaged food industry often hides behind complex labeling, vague claims, and unclear nutritional data leaving consumers unsure about what they’re really eating. This lack of transparency inspired the creation of FoodSage, a platform designed to decode food information and empower people to make informed, confident choices. FoodSage simplifies food transparency by scanning product barcodes and converting dense data on ingredients, additives, allergens, and nutrition into insights that are easy to understand and act on. The app also recommends safer alternatives and educates users about potential food risks, bridging the gap between awareness and action. My role involved defining the product strategy, user experience, and visual design direction, ensuring that every element from interaction flow to branding reinforced clarity, trust, and accessibility within a scalable digital ecosystem.

Results

The final design delivers an intuitive, trustworthy, and informative experience that transforms a simple scan into a meaningful health insight. By combining structured data, clear visual hierarchy, and human-centered storytelling, FoodSage redefines how users engage with everyday food decisions building a foundation for more conscious and transparent consumption.
